Search in archives and collections

About this site

This website provides access to the collection guides of the archives and collections held within Leiden University Libraries. A collection guide facilitates the discovery of information within a collection or archive. It describes what is in a collection or archive and provides context by giving you information about its provenance, acquisition, and history. The collection guides on this website may also contain an inventory, and links to digitized content. The level of detail can vary between the collection guides.

Please note this website is under development. In the coming months, the collection descriptions will be gradually migrated from Digital Collections to this website. During this phase, please use our catalogue for searching collections and archives. From there you will always be redirected to the collection guide, regardless of the website on which it can be found.

Requesting Materials

Collections often consist of individual items that have been described in and can be requested through the the online catalogue. Use the Collection Guides Request Form to request items that are not described in our catalogue, like most archival items. To order digital images please use the order form. Requested materials can only be consulted in the Special Collections Reading Room, for which a library card is required. Access to the materials may be restricted. Information about (temporal) restrictions can be found in the collection guide. Some collections and archives have not yet been processed, and therefore an online collection guide is not available.
