About 3.000 maps are manuscripts. Half of the topographical prints and drawings concern the Netherlands. About 1500 are drawings. There are 1700 portraits of Leiden professors and directors, 13.000 portraits of Dutch nobility, clergymen, artists, scientists and other renowned people, and about 800 portraits of members of the Maatschappij der Nederlandse Letterkunde. Scope and Contents

  • Een belangrijk deel van de portretcollectie bestaat uit de schilderijen in de Senaatskamer, de faculteitskamers en andere vertrekken van het Academiegebouw: ook wel aangeduid als de Collectie Icones Leidenses. Dit is het voor publiek meest zichtbare deel van de collectie.
  • Het meest omvangrijke deel echter, ongeveer 1600 stuks, wordt gevormd door de portretten in de Collectie Bodel Nijenhuis, een groep portretten op papier, verzameld door J.T. Bodel Nijenhuis.
  • De overige portretten, prenten en tekeningen, zijn afkomstig uit de collectie van het Prentenkabinet, een onderdeel van de Universiteitsbibliotheek.
