Scope and Contents
The collection of Annie and Guus Huisman-van Bergen gives a varied survey of modern printmaking and, to a lesser extent, of draughtmanship in Holland from the 1970s and 1980s, with some works dating from the 1990s. Annie Huisman was in close contact with many of the artists whose works she collected. Chris Buursen, Frans de Jong, Ad Meerman, Anton de Vrede, Arhur Stam, Ru van Rossum, Henri Plaat and the somewhat older artist Harry van Kruiningen are all well represented in the collection. Occasionally older prints were purchased from artists like Marius Bauer and Philip Zilcke.

Other Finding Aids
All works have been recorded in the Digitool database. A catalogue, including an inventory, of the collection will be published in 2007.
Annie en Guus Huisman-van Bergen started collecting modern art in the 1970s. Although both had a lively interest in art it was mainly Annie who started collecting on a larger scale after her husband’s death. Besides graphic art and drawings, she collected paintings and sculpture. Many works were obtained from the artists directly, other were purchased at art galleries.
Immediate Source of Acquisition
The collection of graphic art and drawings was donated to the university in 2006 through the mediation of Remke Kruk, professor of Arabic Language and Culture at Leiden University.
After the death of Annie Huisman-van Bergen (2003) her paintings and sculptures were either sold at auctions or passed on to her heirs. This applies as well to the graphic art and drawings, of which however a generous selection was made to be donated to the University Library.
