Abstract in Dutch

De bibliotheek van de Koninklijke Akademie Delft, afdeling Nederlandse Koloniën, werd overgebracht naar de Universiteitsbibliotheek Leiden na de opheffing van de Akademie in 1864. Naast gedrukte werken omvat de collectie hoofdzakelijk handschriften en diplomatische documenten in het Maleis en Javaans verzameld ter ondersteuning van de opleiding van bestuursamtbenaren voor de dienst in Nederlands-Indië en voor hun docenten. Het archief en collectie H.G. baron Nahuys van Burgst (1782-1858) behoort eveneens tot deze collectie.

Abstract in English

The library of the Delft Royal Academy, section Dutch Colonies, was transferred to Leiden University Library after the closure of the Academy in 1864. Besides printed materials, the collection contains manuscripts and diplomatic documents predominantly in Malay and Javanese, brought together as educational tools for the aspirant civil servants for the Dutch East Indies and their teachers. The archive and collection H.G. baron Nahuys van Burgst (1782-1858) is also part of this collection.

Abstract in Dutch De papieren gevormd en bijeengebracht door Huibert Gerard baron Nahuys van Burgst (1782-1858), militair en Oost-Indisch ambtenaar, betreffen de meest uiteenlopende aspecten van het koloniaal en inheems bestuur en maatschappij van Nederlands-Indië vanaf 1741 tot 1852, en in het bijzonder de periode 1804-1839. Zij omvatten correspondentie, aantekeningen, verslagen, adviezen en beschrijvingen van Nahuys’ eigen bestuurlijke en militaire activiteiten (1805-1831, 1836-1839), alsmede een verzameling brieven, resoluties en overige officiële archiefstukken (originelen, afschriften en uittreksels), die betrekking hebben op de jaren 1741-1804, vóór Nahuys’ aankomst in Indië. Abstract in Dutch Verzameling van gedrukten, oosterse handschriften, ego-documenten, foto’s en vroege geluidsopnamen van Christiaan Snouck Hurgronje (1857-1936), Nederlands meest prominente oriëntalist uit de late 19e eeuw en vroege 20e eeuw. Hij is vooral bekend vanwege zijn reis naar Mekka in 1884-1885 en de daaruit volgende publicatie Mekka (1888-1889). Van 1889 tot 1906 diende hij als adviseur voor inlandse zaken van het Gouvernement van Nederlandsch-Indië. Bij zijn terugkeer in Nederland in 1906 volgde hij M.J. de Goeje op als hoogleraar Arabisch in Leiden.
