Collection of Chinese manuscripts, notes and letters of Western sinologists held in the special collections of Leiden University Library at Witte Singel before the creation of the Asian Library in 2017.

J.J. Hoffmann studeerde Chinees en Japans vanaf 1830, werd regeringsvertaler Japans in 1846 en titulair hoogleraar Japans en Chinees in Leiden in 1855. Zijn nagelaten papieren bevatten zijn manuscript Japanse woordenboek en andere manuscripten, Chinese kongsi brieven uit Borneo en overdrukken van zijn artikelen.

J.J. Hoffmann studied Chinese and Japanese from 1830, became government translator of Japanese in 1846, and titular professor of Japanese and Chinese in Leiden in 1855. His papers comprise his manuscript Japanese dictionary and other manuscripts, Chinese kongsi letters from Borneo, and offprints of his publications.

Historisch belangrijke collectie van ca. 1255 Japanse gedrukte boeken, kaarten en handschriften, voor een aanzienlijk deel afkomstig uit de verzameling van Philipp Franz Von Siebold (1796-1866), een Duitse arts in Nederlandse overheidsdienst bij de handelspost op Deshima in de baai van Nagasaki.

Historically important collection of c. 1255 Japanese printed books, maps and manuscripts, originating for a considerable part from the collection of Philipp Franz Von Siebold (1796-1866), a German physician in the service of the Netherlands Government at the trading post of Deshima in the bay of Nagasaki.
