Abstract in Dutch

De particuliere verzamelaar G.A. Edwards (1947) heeft gedurende tientallen jaren foto’s uit Zuidoost-Azië verworven via onder andere veilingen en handelaren. Een deel van zijn verzameling is door de Universitaire Bibliotheken Leiden verworven en bevat foto’s uit Zuidoost-Azië.

G.A. Edwards (1947), private collector, has acquired photos for decades through auctions and dealers, among others. Part of his collection was acquired by Leiden University Libraries and contains photographs from Southeast Asia.

De collectie C.J. Grader is het persoonlijk archief van een in Leiden opgeleide econoom en Indoloog. Als bestuursambtenaar heeft Grader carrière gemaakt in Nederlands-Indië (Bali, Java, Madura) tot aan de Japanse invasie en in Indonesië tijdens de eerste woelige jaren na haar onafhankelijkheid. Voorts weerspiegelt het archief Graders verdere loopbaan in Nederland (Amsterdam, Wageningen) tot aan zijn pensionering in 1971. Zijn omvangrijke correspondentie bestrijkt niet alleen zijn loopbaanjaren maar ook de periode na zijn pensionering.

The collection C.J. Grader consists of the private papers of an economist and indologist trained at Leiden University. Grader spent his career as a civil servant in the Dutch East Indies (Bali, Java, Madura) until the Japanese invasion, and in Indonesia during de first turbulent years after its independence. Furthermore, Grader’s papers reflect his scholarly career in the Netherlands (Amsterdam, Wageningen) until his retirement in 1971. The voluminous correspondence covers Grader’s entire active worklife and the years following his retirement.

Het archief van de familie Hogestijn-Vrijburg bestaat uit stukken die betrekking hebben op de Indische geschiedenis van familie Hogestijn-Vrijburg. Het betreft onder andere brieven, teksten van lezingen en uittreksels uit registers van G.C.W.C. van der Schoot (1850-1934), van het echtpaar Bouwe Vrijburg (1871-1967) en Jikke Johanna Vrijburg-Smeding (1870-1943), van het echtpaar Willem Hendrik Hogestijn (1926-) en Hilda Maria Hogestijn-Vrijburg (1935-) en varia.

The Hogestijn-Vrijburg archive includes materials which refer to the history of Dutch East Indies. It concerns, for example, letters, texts of lectures, and extracts from registers of G.C.W.C. van der Schoot (1850-1934), of the couple Bouwe Vrijburg (1871-1967) and Jikke Johanna Vrijburg-Smeding (1870-1943), of the couple Willem Hendrik Hogestijn (1926-) and Hilda Maria Hogestijn-Vrijburg (1935-) and varia.

Het archief Rudolf Aernoud Kern (1875-1958) bestaat uit documenten die betrekking hebben op zijn loopbaan als bestuursambtenaar op Java. Ook omvat het archief stukken van Kern met betrekking tot zijn functies binnen Nederland, als lector en als adviseur voor Inlandse zaken. Naast documenten omtrent Kern’s loopbaan, zijn er ook stukken uit het oud-archief Modjokerto opgenomen.

The Rudolf Aernoud Kern (1875-1958) archive comprises of material concerning his colonial administrative career on Java. Documents on his position in the Netherlands as lecturer and as consultant for Domestic affairs are part of the archive as well. Abstract in Dutch De papieren gevormd en bijeengebracht door Huibert Gerard baron Nahuys van Burgst (1782-1858), militair en Oost-Indisch ambtenaar, betreffen de meest uiteenlopende aspecten van het koloniaal en inheems bestuur en maatschappij van Nederlands-Indië vanaf 1741 tot 1852, en in het bijzonder de periode 1804-1839. Daarnaast omvat het archief papieren betreffende zijn eerste Indische reis (1885-1890), zijn tweede reis naar Nederlands-Indië (1909-1911), zijn samenwerking met H.H. Juynboll in verband met de publicatie van het standaardwerk over batik, manuscriptartikelen en persoonlijke stukken.

The Gerret Pieter Rouffaer (1860-1928) archive consists of material concerning the positions Rouffaer held at different organisations, his first trip to the Dutch East Indies (1885-1890), his second journey to the Indies (1909-1911), his cooperation with H.H. Juynboll on the subject of batik, manuscript articles and personal documents.
