De collectie bestaat uit poesiealbums, jaarkalenders en dagboekjes, grotendeels geschreven in Nederlands-Indië.

The collection contains verse albums, calendars and diaries, largely written in the Dutch East Indies.

De Collectie Polak bevat hoofdzakelijk fotografie vervaardigd door amateurfotograaf en zakenman Richard Polak (1870-1956), die behoorde tot de Nederlandse picturalisten. Polaks oeuvre omvat portretten, landschappen, stadsgezichten, genrescènes en een enkel stilleven.

The Richard Polak Collection contains almost exclusively photographs created by businessman and amateur photographer Richard Polak (1870-1956), who belonged to the Dutch Pictorialist movement. His body of work comprises portraits, landscapes, cityscapes, genre scenes and a few still lifes.

De collectie portretten bevat ruim 35.000 portretprenten, waaronder honderden met betrekking tot het Huis Oranje-Nassau (stadhouders en vorsten / vorstinnen) en zo’n 60 portretseries. Tot de geportretteerden horen verder alle mensen van naam en faam uit (vooral) Europa. Staatslieden, militairen en kunstenaars zijn prominent vertegenwoordigd. Grote delen van de collectie zijn afkomstig van de verzamelaars, Johannes Bodel Nijenhuis (Nederlanders) en Albertus Welcker (kunstenaarsportretten).

The portrait collection contains more than 35,000 portraits, including hundreds relating to the House of Orange-Nassau (stadtholders, kings, queens and relatives) and over 60 portrait series. The portrayed include mostly famous people from (mainly) Europe. Statesmen, military and artists are prominently represented. Large parts of the collection come from the collectors, Johannes Bodel Nijenhuis (Dutch) and Albertus Welcker (artists' portraits).

De collectie portretten van hoogleraren van de Universiteit Leiden is een historisch gegroeide, heterogene verzameling van schilderijen, sculpturen, prenten en tekeningen. Zij geeft een (niet compleet) overzicht van professoren die vanaf de stichting van de universiteit in 1575 tot de huidige dag in Leiden werkzaam zijn geweest. Sommige hoogleraren zijn met één, andere met meer portretten vertegenwoordigd.

The archive of F.H. Poser (1879-1959) contains documents about his career and other positions in the Dutch East Indies. Poser was a lawyer and he was on the city council of Buitenzorg and the juridical councils of Batavia and Medan.

Zwart-wit foto’s genomen door de Amerikaanse fotografe Josephine Powell (1919-2007), verzameld door het vroegere Instituut voor Zuid-Aziatische Archeologie (Amsterdam), in de periode 1959-1988. Het betreft foto’s van monumenten, sites, museumobjecten, ethnografica en landschappen genomen tussen 1956-1975 in Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India (Fatehpur Sikri, Agra, Gangesgebied, Kashmir, Orissa), Bangladesh, Nepal en Thailand. Hierbij domineren de architectuurfoto’s.

Archief van het Prentenkabinet van de Universiteit Leiden, gesticht in 1815 op basis van het legaat van Mr. J.Th. Royer. De stukken hebben betrekking op de periode 1825-2002. In 2002 werd het Prentenkabinet opgenomen in de Universiteitsbibliotheek. De afdeling Fotografie die in 1957 aan het Prentenkabinet werd toegevoegd, heeft haar eigen archief.

Archives of Leiden University’s Print Room, founded in 1815, following the bequest of Mr. J.Th. Royer. The records pertain to the years 1825-2002. In 2002 the Print Room became a part of the University Library. The Photographic department, founded in 1957, holds its own archives and is excluded from this collection guide.

H.J.A. Promes (1918-2012) was kapucijner priester, onderwijzer en onderzoeker op Noord-Sumatra. P. Voorhoeve (1899-1996) was taalambtenaar op Noord-Sumatra en conservator aan de Universiteitsbibliotheek Leiden. Het archief bevat persoonlijke stukken, correspondentie en aantekeningen, stukken en artikelen over Batakse handschriften en pustaha van Promes en Voorhoeve en aantekeningen voor het proefschrift van Promes.

H.J.A. Promes (1918-2012) was a Capuchin priest, teacher and researcher in North-Sumatra. P. Voorhoeve (1899-1996) was language official in North-Sumatra and curator at the Leiden University Library. The archive contains personal documents, correspondence and notes, documents and articles about Batak manuscripts and pustaha of Promes and Voorhoeve and notes for the dissertation of Promes.
