Reproductive prints after paintings and drawings by Rembrandt (1606-1669), dating from the earliest prints made during his lifetime until the advent of photography in the middle of the 19th century.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

Most of the prints in this collection entered the Print Room in the nineteenth century when the collecting of reproductive prints was central to the acquisition policy. Many prints were donated by the second director of the Print Room, N.C. de Gijselaar (1792-1873) after his retirement from the university. A larger collection entered the Print Room in 1894 when 225 prints after Rembrandt were purchased from the art dealer Frederik Muller & Co. in Amsterdam.
